The Center for International Relations and Sustainable Development (CIRSD) has launched the Global Preventive Diplomacy Initiative (GPDI)—a strategic effort to enhance early action, dialogue, and multilateral cooperation in the face of rising global instability.
Co-chaired by H.E. Ms. María Fernanda Espinosa, President of the 73rd Session of the United Nations General Assembly and former Foreign and Defense Minister of Ecuador, and H.E. Mr. Vuk Jeremić, President of the 67th Session of the United Nations General Assembly and current President of CIRSD, the initiative responds to the growing need for new structured and proactive conflict-prevention strategies within the international system.
The GPDI seeks to reinvigorate and modernize the concept of preventive diplomacy by drawing lessons from historical practice while addressing current and emerging threats under rapidly shifting geopolitical conditions. It aims to embed preventive diplomacy into the core of global governance structures, promoting early intervention, constructive dialogue, and coordinated international action before conflicts erupt or escalate.
To support these efforts, CIRSD will work closely with governments, the private sector, and academia to foster collaborative action, facilitate strategic dialogue, and amplify diverse voices in shaping the future of global governance.
