CIRSD Publishes the Serbian Edition of The Age of Sustainable Development
A Serbian-language edition of the latest book by professor Jeffrey Sachs—one of the world’s leading developmental economists—entitled The Age of Sustainable Development, has just been published by the Center for International Relations and Sustainable Development (CIRSD) and Serbia’s most respected publishing house “Službeni glasnik.“ This major new work presents a compelling and practical framework for how global citizens can address the seemingly intractable worldwide problems of persistent extreme poverty, environmental degradation, and political-economic injustice. Sachs outlines the holistic way forward: sustainable development.
This provocative work offers readers, students, activists, environmentalists, and policy makers the tools, metrics, and practical pathways they need to achieve Sustainable Development Goals. It further explores its incremental fields such as poverty erradication, economic development, health policy, education, climate change, food security, urban and rural development, social inclusiveness, and protection of ecosystems. This book is designed to inform, inspire, and spur action. Based on Sachs's twelve years as director of the Earth Institute at Columbia University, his thirteen years advising the United Nations secretary-general on the Millennium Development Goals, and his recent presentation of these ideas in a popular online course, The Age of Sustainable Development is a landmark publication and a clarion call for all who care about our planet and global justice.
"This terrific book stands out for its breadth, clarity, mastery of detail, honest discussion of complex matters, and its author's practical experience and good sense. It's actually 10 terrific books under one cover, because its accounts of economics, history, health, development, education, gender issues, food, climate change and biological diversity are among the best available. If you want to understand the modern world, and if you have room on your shelf for only one book, this is your book."
Jared Diamond, Pulitzer Prize winning author of Guns, Germs, and Steel
"The Age of Sustainable Development is my candidate for most important book in current circulation. Inspirational, encyclopedic in coverage, moving smoothly from discipline to discipline as though composed by multiple experts, Sachs explains why humanity must attain sustainability as its highest priority -- and he outlines the best ways to do it."
Edward O. Wilson, University Research Professor Emeritus, Harvard University
“I believe that the Serbian edition of Professor Sachs’s exceptional book will serve as an invaluable source of information about both the importance of, and means to achieving sustainable development throughout all aspects of human activity. Moreover, this book will be a good reminder for us about how to think more responsibly about our present and our future.”
Vuk Jeremić, president of CIRSD The Age of Sustainable Development is already available in the bookstores operated by “Službeni glasnik,“ as well as others throught the country.

Eighty years after its founding, the UN finds itself at a critical juncture. Its purpose is on trial, and its mission urgently requires recalibration. The world it inherited from the scorches of the Second World War no longer exists, yet many of the organisation’s practices remain rooted in a bygone era – out of sync with today’s realities and detached from those it was created to serve.
