Leading Hong Kong Think-tank Donates $100,000 to Serbian Flood Relief
The former Secretary for Home Affairs of the Hong Kong SAR Government and Deputy Chairman and Secretary General of the China Energy Fund Committee (CEFC), Dr. Patrick HO Chi Ping, announced in Belgrade a donation of $100,000 to help rebuild Serbia in the wake of the devastating floods that struck the country in mid-May.
Dr. Ho was a featured speaker at the panel “The Lessons of World War I and the 21st Century East Asia” of the conference organized in Belgrade by the Center for International Relations and Sustainable Development (CIRSD) entitled “The European Tragedy of 1914 and the Multipolar World of 2014: Lessons Learned.”
During his stay in Belgrade, Dr. Ho was briefed on the extent of the damage caused by the floods to the people of Serbia and other Western Balkan countries, upon which an offer was extended by CEFC to provide assistance in the recovery effort.
CEFC is a nongovernmental, nonpartisan, not-for-profit Chinese think-tank and charitable organization registered in Hong Kong. It has Special Consultative Status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (UN ECOSOC). CEFC is dedicated to fostering international dialogue and understanding of cultural values, regional cooperation, energy security, and issues relating to China’s emerging place in the world, which aims to promote international cooperation and mutual respect through public diplomacy.
