Vuk Jeremić, President of the 67th session of the UN General Assembly and CIRSD President, met in Geneva with Kofi Annan, the 7th UN Secretary-General.
Annan and Jeremić discussed various issues of significance to current international relations as exchanged views on the main global challenges for 2015.
Jeremić also held a press conference at the Swiss Press Club in Geneva, which attracted a number of international diplomats, UN correspondents, and local media.
Jeremić underlined the specific weight of the year 2015 for global progress, in the context of multilateral negotiations on the new UN sustainable development agenda, as well as talks aimed at achieving a binding climate change treaty. However, he noted, in the year when the world needs an ever higher degree of international cooperation and coordination, the return of power play and growing mistrust between main global actors puts these crucial multilateral processes at risk.
In light of these challenges, Jeremić presented an ambitious agenda for CIRSD in 2015. He announced the official promotion of the current issue of Horizon in February, which is to take place both in Belgrade and New York. The main theme of this issue is devoted to relations between the West and Russia.
The CIRSD President explained that the next issue of Horizonswill be dedicated to the situation in the Middle East. He also announced, among other events, a high level international conference that CIRSD will organize in September in partnership with the Harvard Center for European Studies, on the role of Europe on the international scene and how Europe is perceived by others players in the world.

The world it inherited from the scorches of the Second World War no longer exists, yet many of the organisation’s practices remain rooted in a bygone era – out of sync with today’s realities and detached from those it was created to serve.
