Horizons Holds Promotional Event at Belgrade University
The Center for International Relations and Sustainable Development (CIRSD) promoted its English-language quarterly publication Horizonsat the Faculty of Political Science of the University of Belgrade on November 27th. The event was attended by a large number of the university's students, professors and researchers.
The keynote speakers included political science professors Radmila Nakarada, Predrag Simić and Dragan Simić, all of whom commended CIRSD for launching Horizons, expressing support for the magazine’s bid to become a globally renowned brand.
During the event, CIRSD President Vuk Jeremić also delivered a lecture entitled "The World in Flux"—a topic previously chosen as the leading theme of the magazine’s inaugural issue—after which followed a question and answer session.
Jeremić said that there are perhaps dramatic resemblances of today’s international relations with the order that existed a hundred years ago, thus enabling us to learn the lessons of the past and prevent similar large scale conflicts from emerging again. He then listed the Middle East, East Asia, and Ukraine as the world’s key crisis points, holding significant potential for escalation.
CIRSD President Jeremić further argued that none of the belligerents in Ukraine have an interest in renewing the Cold War, stating that a compromise between the conflicted parties both within and outside the country remains the only viable solution. He further noted that the opportunity presented by Serbia’s 2015 OSCE chairmanship could in turn facilitate a positive turn of events, thus reaffirming the country’s international position.

Eighty years after its founding, the UN finds itself at a critical juncture. Its purpose is on trial, and its mission urgently requires recalibration. The world it inherited from the scorches of the Second World War no longer exists, yet many of the organisation’s practices remain rooted in a bygone era – out of sync with today’s realities and detached from those it was created to serve.
