Northeastern University Students Visiting CIRSD

The President of the Center for International Cooperation and Sustainable Development (CIRSD), Vuk Jeremić, spoke to a visiting student delegation from the U.S.-based Northeastern University, who visited CIRSD as part of their study tour program of institutions and organizations in the Balkans.

Jeremić spoke to the students about the work and projects that CIRSD is undertaking. In his remarks, he also raised a number of current global issues, particularly in the field of international relations and increasingly frequent crises in the world.

The President of CIRSD explained the concept of sustainable development, around which a consensus has formed in the UN, but also stressed its importance for the progress of all Southeast Europe, and Serbia in particular.

"Efforts to achieve economic development through outdated technologies and dirty energy sources in the medium and long term, are a secure road to ruin," said Jeremić speaking about the importance of the social and environmental aspects of the modern economy.

Today's lecture was attended by professors Dr. Dennis Sullivan and Dr. William Lovely, who led this group of students.

Northeastern University organizes more than 50 summer semesters throughout the world, and one of them takes place in Serbia and Bosnia for 5 weeks. Students from the United States, Japan and India, 34 of them, meet with leading figures from the world of politics, diplomacy and public policy organizations. The goal of the program is to acquire knowledge about the issue of ethnic relations, transition economies and sustainable post-conflict reconstruction. Northeastern University is one of the fastest growing U.S. universities, and is currently ranked the 49th best university in the United States.
